The importance of a clean and sanitised fridge
Cleaning the fridge is something essential and you have to do it regularly, in particular before summer vacation during which you will not stay home for a long time. Expired food or forgotten foods in the fridge could also be dangerous for our health. Did you know that your refrigerator can hide more than 8000 bacteria per square centimetre? A lot of them are not dangerous but some may cause food poisoning. If you follow the right precautions, cleaning the fridge is something that can be done in a very short time but with a certain continuity. Let’s see together some simple suggestions to do the perfect cleaning.
First step: clean up
First of all, pull the plug and empty your fridge. It will be easier to clean. We bet you’ll find a lot of food scraps or expired food you forgot in some corner. This phase could help you also to reduce waste for example making incredible recipes just using food leftovers. Once the fridge is emptied just remove the drawers and the shelves to soak them, or just wash them with your dishwasher. Now that your refrigerator is finally completely empty you can proceed with the cleaning of the inside part. All you need is rubber gloves, and you can choose between dish soap or more natural products like vinegar, lemon, bicarbonate, or Marseille soap.
Dish soap
Just use a scouring pad and dish soap to clean the inside of your fridge and the gaskets (these are very important) then, just wash and dry accurately.
Vinegar
Vinegar is one of the most famous natural home methods to clean. In fact, it is perfect not only to clean and degrease surfaces but also to sanitise and eliminate bacteria. The only thing you have to do is to make a solution of water and vinegar and use it to clean the inside of your fridge with a soft cloth. If there are some stubborn stains, use pure vinegar. Do not forget to dry perfectly.
Lemon
Here we are with another natural home method. Citric acid is an incredible natural disinfectant and it is perfect to eliminate bad odours. As well as vinegar, make a solution of water and lemon and use it to clean your fridge.
Bicarbonate
The mixture of bicarbonate and water is ideal for cleaning all types of surfaces, even the fridge. When you prepare the mix, you can choose its consistency by adjusting the doses of water and bicarbonate. A denser consistency is ideal for difficult stains and to eliminate mould.
Marseille soap
Marseille soap is a good detergent and has an incredible perfume. To clean the refrigerator, reduce the soap into flakes, dissolve it in hot water and it is ready to be used.
