Winter is coming, the weather is getting colder ... and the risk of falling ill and catching cold is growing all the time! At this time of year, I’m sure everyone would like to learn a few natural ways of relieving cold symptoms, ensuring a faster recovery and making sneezes and a blocked nose easier to bear, without having to use drugs.
Here are some recommendations for you from our blog: healthy, natural and easy to use in the home, to make the common cold less of a problem in the coming autumn and winter!
- Ginger tea: well known for its anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties, ginger is a wonderful aid when you have a cold. All you need to make your tea is 1 litre of water to boil, grated fresh ginger (6 teaspoons), honey (1 tablespoon) and the juice of half a lemon. Delicious and very good for you!
- Eucalyptus steam tents: steam tents are amongst the best known, most widely used of the many traditional remedies around. Bring a small pan of water to the boil, pour in 5-10 drops of essential oil of eucalyptus (a powerful decongestant, useful for treating colds or sinusitis) and breathe in the fumes, placing a towel over your head to create your steam tent.
- Garlic and lemon: after ginger and eucalyptus, we come to another natural decongestant, which will soothe your inflamed mucosa and free your nasal passages: garlic. Chop up a clove, mix with the juice of half a lemon and pour the mixture into a glass of hot water. Then add a teaspoon of honey.
- Onion syrup: an excellent natural remedy when a cold also includes a cough. Place a few slices of red onion in a glass jar, pour on honey and leave to stand for a few hours. The resulting syrup will combine the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of onion with honey’s innate ability to soothe the cough.
See off your cold ... in a 100% natural way!
