Drinking a smoothie packed with nutrients on a hot day is a great way to replenish your body and top up your energy. So, give these recipes a go and up your smoothie game!
Sunshine Smoothie
Prep: 5 minutes
Serves 3
Make sure you start your day with a ray of sunshine – this smoothie is low fat and has two of your five-a-day.
Ingredients
500ml carrot juice, chilled
200g pineapple (fresh or canned)
2 bananas, broken into chunks
A small piece of ginger (peeled)
20g cashew nuts
Juice 1 lime
Method
Put the ingredients in a blender and whizz until smooth. Drink straight away or pour into a bottle to drink on the go.
Super Berry Smoothie
Prep: 10 minutes
Serves 4
Tip: Frozen berries are a thrifty way to make healthy smoothies, adding oats with also make it extra filling.
Ingredients
450g bag of frozen berries
450g pot of fat free strawberry yoghurt
100ml milk
25g porridge oats
2tsp honey (optional)
Method
Whizz the berries, yoghurt and milk together with a blender. Stir through the porridge oats, then pour into four glasses and serve with a drizzle of honey.
Strawberry Frosty
If strawberries are your thing then this frosty smoothie is sure to tantalise your taste buds.
Prep: 5 minutes
Serves 4
Ingredients
568ml lemonade
200g of ice
75g cup frozen strawberries
Method
Place the ingredients into a blender and whizz, garnish with fresh lemon and serve.
Pina-Vocado Smoothie
Add a tropical vibe to your smoothie with this Pina-Vocado recipe, then sit back, close your eyes and dream of being in Puerto Rico.
Prep: 10 minutes
Serves 2
Ingredients
370ml orange juice
210g frozen pineapple
75g avocado
1 small frozen banana (or fresh)
75g ice (coconut water ice cubes is a good alternative)
Optional Add-in’s...
1/2 lime, squeezed over top smoothie, or blended right into it
1 Tbsp coconut milk or 2 tsp unsweetened coconut flakes
Method
Blend all the ingredients together and garnish with a slice of avocado. Like a bit of heat? Why not spice up your smoothie with a dash of cayenne pepper.
Summer Fruit Smoothie
TIP: Make your smoothie a little sweeter with a touch of icing sugar.
Prep: 15 minutes
Serves 3
Ingredients
225g fresh blackberries
225g fresh raspberries
225g fresh blueberries
1 just-ripe medium banana, broken into pieces
150ml natural plain yoghurt
150ml milk
1tbsp icing sugar (optional)
Method
Place ingredients into a blender and whizz until smooth, then pour the mixture into tall cool glasses and enjoy.
